What happens

3 routes will be released at 12:30 PM. You work on them in class until 1:50 PM, then continue anywhere until midnight.

Grading (two parts)

Part 1: Notebooks (85% of midterm)

Submit your Colab/Jupyter notebooks through the usual Google Form system.

Routes completedCredit
2 routesFull credit
3 routesExtra credit
Fewer than 2See below

"Completed" = same as all quarter (80%+ exercises rated OK or better).

If you complete fewer than 2 routes: Your grade is the number of exercises you completed (rated OK) divided by the total number of exercises across 2 routes. For example, if 2 routes contain 12 exercises total and you complete 8, your credit = 8/12 = 67%. Every exercise counts — there is no cliff.

Part 2: Process Snapshot (15% of midterm)

Submit a copy-paste transcript of your AI assistant interaction from one route. Upload as .txt or .md.

ProcessCredit
Engaged (iterative prompting, follow-ups, debugging, questioning)Full 15%
Minimal engagement (copy-paste code, no iteration)Half credit (7.5%)
Not submitted0%

We will release screencast examples before the midterm showing engaged vs. non-engaged AI usage.

Logbook entries

In each notebook, include [LOGBOOK] entries — short reflections in markdown cells about what you're thinking, what confused you, or what you learned. You can scatter these throughout the notebook or add a logbook section at the end.

FAQ

How many routes for full credit? 2 out of 3. A third earns extra credit.

What if I only finish 1 route? You get credit for the fraction of exercises completed (rated OK) out of the total exercises in 2 routes.

Can I use any AI tool? Yes — Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, anything.

What if my transcript is messy? Good. That's real problem-solving. We want your actual process.

Can I leave class early? No — stay until 1:50 PM when class ends. After that, continue working anywhere until midnight.

Bottom line

Show up. Attempt routes. Include logbook reflections. Submit your work and one honest AI transcript. If you've been working consistently all quarter, this will feel familiar.
